The water that flows into our communities does not remain there, but passes through to the Delta and bays that lead to the Pacific Ocean. Treated city water, well water, and runoff take on pollutants as they flow through our communities, and we’re responsible for making sure that the water we pass along is as unpolluted as possible. Discharging clean water protects the wellbeing of our communities as well as downstream habitats, and supports healthy water quality in our bays and the ocean.
Wastewater treatment plants clean pollutants and solids from sewage. Stormwater systems capture and route runoff into our urban streams and canals, which then flows to our bays untreated. As treated wastewater and untreated runoff leaves our communities, both kinds of water streams flow into the fragile downstream environments of our bays and oceans.
Fairfield-Suisun Sewer District is a proud sponsor of Hometown Green, a KUIC 95.3 campaign that provides tips and ideas for ways you can help protect our environment.
