As a special district authorized by the California Legislature, Fairfield-Suisun Sewer District has been assigned broad powers to finance, construct and operate systems for collection, treatment and disposal of sewage, as well as collection and dispersal of stormwater, within its geographic boundaries. The District is governed by a 10-member Board of Directors, which is composed of the City Council members of Fairfield and Suisun City. The Board president is elected by the Board from among its members. The District’s General Manager, who directly oversees the District’s operations, reports to the Board of Directors.

District Board meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month at 6 p.m. in the Board Room at 1010 Chadbourne Road, Fairfield, California. In addition, meetings of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors are held on the third Monday of each month at 4 p.m. Agendas for the regularly scheduled, and any special meetings, of the Board of Directors and its Executive Committee can be found by following the "Board Agendas and Minutes" link at the top of this page.
